8th Grade Coffee: This is an informational and social coffee held in the spring for incoming freshman parents. The Superintendent, Principal, Guidance, PTO and other departments speak. Tours of the building are offered.

Book Fair: Fundraiser held at Barnes & Noble, Oak Brook in early June. Students can purchase the English Department’s required summer reading books and other recommended great reads.

A process set up for HInsdale Central Families to buy and sell books. We are improving our website to make buying and selling Central textbooks easier. Please be patient as we work on this. It will be launched by July 1. You will be able to list last year’s textbooks that you no longer need IF they will be used NEXT year. You will be able to purchase textbooks for your new classes that previous students used last year.

This committee provides volunteers to help at coat check for Homecoming and Turnabout Dances.

Communications/eMail: This committee electronically sends out all the pertinent news and information regarding PTO activities and other activities going on at school.

Conversations: This committee is responsible for establishing a schedule for “Conversations with the Principal”, which takes place immediately after each PTO meeting. Members work with the Principal to plan monthly topics pertinent to the Hinsdale Central Community.

D86 Speaker Series : Speakers are invited to discuss topics pertinent for high school parents, often with an open forum for discussion afterwards. Past topics have included drug and alcohol use, peer pressure, bullying and social and emotional learning. Committee works with the District, School and PTO to help organize speakers.

Devil's Diner: Provides treats and small giveaways to students, usually centered around the cafeteria, either directly or through student-led clubs.

Directory: Responsible for reviewing and editing the information collected online and overseeing the printing. Timetable for the committee is June through October.

Families Helping Families: This committee acts at the behest of the Hinsdale Central Social Work Department to help Central students and families in crisis; often on short notice. This philanthropic group may need to supply specific items or financial aid, which is funded by the PTO and private donations.

Freshman Parent Parties: This committee is comprised of volunteers responsible for planning, organizing and implementing the parties for parents of incoming freshman. The primary focus of these informal social gatherings is to make connections with other freshman parents, meet members of the administration and current HC parents. All the parties take place on one Friday night in September.

Holiday Breakfast: This committee plans and coordinates a Faculty and Staff appreciation breakfast held in December. This is an elegant and festive catered breakfast, with homemade baked goods, prepared by the parents and the PTO Board. Teachers always look forward to this breakfast and appreciate the hard work by a creative team effort.

Insight Collaboration: This committee, in conjunction with the HCHS Social Work Department, supports mental health initiatives for students whose families cannot afford such services. The primary goal of this group is developing funding initiatives to underwrite as many students as the Social Work Department feels would benefit from said services.

Interview Skills Workshop: This committee coordinates and staffs a half- day workshop for juniors and seniors. This workshop teaches students effective skills to utilize when interviewing for college.

Make A Difference: A committee of PTO members determine the quarterly awards to faculty and staff based on nominations written by students, parents, staff or teachers. This award recognizes the outstanding efforts made by faculty and staff who “make a difference” in our school community.

Middle School Transition: These parent volunteers report back to the PTO any pertinent information from the various middle schools. Parents who have both a connection to one of the feeder schools (Avery Coonley, CHMS, HMS, Westview, Butler, Gower School, Notre Dame, St Isaac Jogues) and have a HC high school student are ideal to fill this position.

New Family Network: This committee helps the families of students transferring in during the school year to acclimate to the school and community. Welcome events are organized for the parents of transfer students and an International Breakfast is held for foreign exchange students and their host families. Parents can also be assigned a Parent Ambassador to help them on an individual basis if they wish. This committee works closely with the HCHS students’ Ambassadors Club.

Parent Network: Networking helps, especially when the focus is on becoming better supports for our children. Our Parent Network provides information, knowledge, and support for you, the parent. We hold monthly meetings as well as two main events at the start of the school year (Tutor Expo and Parent Prep-Night). Our topics may appeal to a variety of parents but some meetings may be tailored to meet the needs of parents with students who require more support. Regardless of labels and levels, if your child needs any support, we welcome you, and hope you will join us.

Reading Rocks: This committee acts as the liaison among the PTO, the Hinsdale Central Library, teachers and staff. These volunteers provide support for Library sponsored programs and events such as One Book-One School, Read Across America Week, Gaming Day, and author visits.

Red Devil Spirit Scholarship (formerly Book Grant): A committee composed of PTO members who determine the recipients of a Book Grant scholarship. These awards go to college bound senior students who demonstrate a financial need. Students fill out an application which includes a recommendation from their guidance counselor. The Book Grants are funded through public donations, corporate and individual sponsorships, and from a portion of the profits from the sale of the HCHS Student Directory and the advertising therein.

Social Media: This committee updates our social media including Twitter, Facebook and Remind.

Teacher/Staff Appreciation: This committee is responsible for putting together on-going programs designed to recognize the teachers and staff for their efforts and support of the students. Some events include: "Apple Day", "Pumpkin Pie Pickup" for Thanksgiving, candy for Valentine's Day and" Desserts and Coffee" for Teacher Appreciation Week.
